Learn to Row 2004 - Highlights so far…
Our 'Learn To Row' course started in mid-September and the novices have been rowing twice a week since then.
Erg tests
All of our new recruits have completed 500m, 1000m and 2000m time trials on our rowing machines…
and some of their scores were so impressive that the senior squads took note! Here are some photographs
of the chaps in action. Note that look of concentration on all their faces!

The Eight
The Novices are now going out in the Eight without seniors to stabilise the boat.

All aboard!

And they're off…. Well after they've checked out the UWE guys in the Pair first though!

The coaching team
Many of the senior squad and last year's learn to row course have helped out with the course. We've seen them
coxing, supervising erg tests and rowing in the boat to demonstrate technique / set the pace! Most of them were
too camera shy to pose so here is an 'action' shot of Pete and our rowing club guard dog!

Rowing in Fours
Rowing in Fours will focus the crew's attention on balance and technique. The ladies will be using Malcolm
and the guys will row in Suzie Wong.
Malcolm
Sarah introduces the ladies to the lovely Malcolm. Malcolm has a place in the heart of many ladies in the club.
He has turned many novices into seniors!

Stroke side or Bow side
We could only accept 32 on the course - 16 guys and 16 ladies. Here are most of the guys in the process of
choosing their preferred sides (stroke or bow). Note the fireman trying to sneak into the line-up! Sorry no
places left this year.

After the session …
Time to go home and eats lots of pasta, read Matthew Pinsent's autobiography and watch those rowing technique videos…
or maybe follow in the footsteps of previous Learn to Rows and attend a 'debriefing' session at the Orchard / the
Cottage.
The guys love rowing so much that they have started to give the boats a goodbye hug.
