Annual Dinner - 12 April 2008
Ladies and Gents
It's time to announce the City of Bristol annual dinner!
As a celebration for WeHORR and HORR the club will be hosting its annual
dinner on the 12th April (after avon gorge head) in the superb Mud Dock.
The dress code is black tie, and this year the theme will be masquerade.
Tickets are £36 for a full three course meal, half a bottle of wine, DJ and
dancing till midnight. As I'm sure you know, the food is excellent from Mud
Dock, and I will be sending the menu round shortly: you will choose your
main from a selection of fish, veggie and meat dishes (steak is on the
menu!)
I hope you are all up for a great party in celebration of everyones work
this year. Coaches, coxes, rowers, supporters all welcome: let's get all 7
WEHORR and HORR crews out for the big night (strawpedo competitions a
definite!)
Please email Emily to reserve your ticket, the bill will go on your club account,
these must be cleared quickly, and your ticket is NOT guaranteed until this
has been done..
Tickets first come, first served, and they are limited...
Introducing you to your new Social Committee
Rowena Harding Creative Director, setter of innovative and interesting themes and purveyor of cruel and unusual beverages (mantra – no two drinks the same!)
Emily Adams ‘The Brains’ behind the operation and in charge of general coercion ensuring attendance at ALL COBRC gatherings! (*)
Nicole Fellows Technical Support (e-mail broadcasts) and maintenance of Facebook’s COBRC Social group (in conjunction with Mr Lush, naturally)
(* Has yet to confirm her role given her current absence on annual leave, we’re using artistic license to assess Emily’s strengths developed during many a long hour pushing her mighty men’s eight to the limits of their endurance!!)
We have come up with the following ideas for the development of the currently stagnant COBRC social scene(again in Emily’s absence, so all suggestions may be subject to substantial changes….)
‘Final Fridays’ – yes, end of month knees ups, Giving members old and new the opportunity to unwind after a months hard training, update each other on current injuries, bemoan mean coxes and curse demanding coaches and then buy them a drink and forget all about it!!! These will happen each last Friday in the month, hence ‘Final Friday’, without fail and will generally have a theme, nothing too demanding but merely a medium through which COBRC members can identify with each other on both a mental and physical plain i.e. when you’re a little worse for wear and wondering where every other idiot wearing a hula skirt has gone.
‘Cottaging Thursdays’ – applies to women’s squad (though men, more than happy for you to attend). We’ve had a large influx of new ladies and it’s about time we all got to know each other a little more. Therefore, Thursdays after training we would like to suggest a get together at local eateries, this is very likely to involve lots and lots of pasta, though other Bristol venues serving nutritious, tasty vittles (and perhaps nourishing beer) will be visited over the coming months. These will be informal affairs, simply some time to grab a bite to eat after a hard session’s training and catch up with crews etc… Called Cottaging Thursdays as the most likely venue will be The Cottage pub just round the corner from the Boat house.
Other outings – we’ll be keeping an eye out for other local events happening too and will be organising club trips, one event currently in mind is the ‘Flaming Tar Barrels of Ottery St Mary’ in November – more details to follow. Other outings could equally be BBQ’s and Rounders on the Downs and en masse crew bowl offs! Suggestions for this will be gratefully received and carefully considered. Please keep your Social Sec’s updated with any local events that you think would interest other club members.
Christmas Party – we will of course be meeting shortly to discuss plans for the Christmas Party and further details will follow as soon as we’ve had a chance to get together and start working on some ideas. We will keep you updated and ask for input as we go along.
Cox recruitment extravaganza! - We are contemplating the prospect of hitting the streets, bars, clubs and pubs of Bristol in search of more coxing material to address the continual shortage of brave small light souls. This has apparently been done to great effect in other clubs and we have a couple of members with previous recruiting experience that we will be chatting to. We may need other members to assist in this endeavour and will keep you posted on plans as they develop.
The First Final Friday will take place on Friday 28th September – meeting at Zero Degrees at 8pm. The Theme that has been suggested by our eminent Creative Director is ‘FLORAL FRIDAY’ – a celebration of the summer that ought to have been! And dedicated to all those crews that slogged it out in the rain at Womens’ Henley, Llandaff and many a Docks based soggy water session. So get out your sunniest gear – flowery ties, dresses, shorts, hats, socks, knickers – whatever you’ve got, we want to see it as we bid a not so fond farewell to the Sprint season and welcome the Head Season in.
First ‘Cottaging Thursday’ – well, happening quite regularly anyway – just wished to bring it to the attention of ALL members. We’ll be at The Cottage next Thursday 20th September for Cheesy Chips and Gravy – though consulting Christi’s latest suggested dietary advice – other menu choices may need to be considered...
Reminders of up and coming events, times, locations etc….. will be sent out regularly too so keep an eye on your e-mail fellow rowers and buckle up…..
The Social Sec’s x
